We are seeking Alumni Community Leaders to serve as the main point of contact for the University of Westminster’s alumni community in China. This voluntary role will support the growth of Westminster’s global alumni network while fostering an inclusive and connected community.

What is the purpose of the role?
As an Alumni Community Leader, you will serve as the main point of contact for the University of Westminster’s alumni in your local area. This volunteer role involves social event planning, communication and community engagement. Leaders are expected to organise at least 1–2 social events per year, share relevant opportunities and news, and support the growth of Westminster’s global alumni network while fostering an inclusive and connected community.
Who will I report to?
You will report to the Alumni Relations Office at the University of Westminster and maintain regular communication with the team.
What is the time commitment?
Time requirements vary based on the size and engagement of your local alumni community. At a minimum, you should organise 1–2 events per year, ranging from formal networking sessions to casual meetups. You’ll also actively participate in your local alumni social group by posting and encouraging engagement through the digital communication platform.
What is the term length?
The term is typically one year and may be renewed annually. While we value flexibility, the role is designed to give you time to grow and make a meaningful impact.
What will be my key responsibilities?
Community Engagement
- Organise alumni meetups, reunions and events that foster networking and community building.
- Strengthen connections among local alumni.
- Promote diverse and inclusive participation.
- Welcome alumni returning from the UK and support prospective students heading to Westminster.
- Facilitate opportunities for professional development, career networking and mentorship.
University Liaison
- Provide feedback from the community to the Alumni Relations Office.
- Promote university-led campaigns, events and initiatives.
- Celebrate and share local alumni achievements with the University.
Communication and Promotion
- Collaborate with the Alumni Office to manage messaging within your local alumni group. Post frequently and at a minimum of once a week in the group to share relevant opportunities and encourage engagement and connections.
- Act as the local contact for alumni wishing to reconnect with the University or for those who are considering studying at Westminster.
- Help connect alumni with one another for collaboration and support.
- Promote Westminster’s initiatives and highlight ways that alumni can support current students.
What skills and attributes do I need?
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Passion for community-building and engagement.
- Organised, proactive and reliable.
- Comfortable using digital platforms (e.g. Teams, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, WeChat).
What are the expectations and commitments involved?
- Organise at least 1–2 alumni events per year.
- Post frequently and at a minimum of once a week through the communication platform used by your alumni social group.
- Attend quarterly check-ins with the Alumni Relations Office.
- Share brief updates on activities and events.
- Represent the University positively and professionally.
- Uphold the University’s values and community standards.
What support and resources will be provided?
- Dedicated Contact at the Alumni Relations Office:
A named contact for guidance, regular check-ins, and ongoing support. - Onboarding and Induction:
A comprehensive induction session to introduce you to the role, expectations and best practices, along with a digital welcome pack. - Event Planning Toolkit:
Access to a toolkit with templates for invitations, promotional materials, event checklists and guidance on running in-person and virtual events. - Promotional Support:
Help with promoting your events and initiatives through university channels (e.g. alumni newsletters, social media, website). - Access to Alumni Insights:
Access to relevant local alumni data (in accordance with data protection policies) to help with outreach and engagement.
What will be my recognition and development opportunities?
- Digital badge and LinkedIn recommendation at the end of the term to showcase your dedication as a leader of the Westminster alumni community.
- Invitations to special volunteer appreciation events or leadership webinars.
- Opportunities to be featured in alumni stories, newsletters or case studies.
What is the application and selection process?
