High profile, TLG Capital founders and Westminster Business School alumni; Shane Jocelyn, Zach Latif and Zain Latif are continuing firmly on their success story with their TLG capital investment. At 2012 they chose to focus on the largely ignored wider Sub-Saharan Africa region which was a long time ignored region by the investment community. During one of his interviews Zain Latif mentioned that his secret to success was moving away from the crowd and taking an unconventional path.
This unconventional path is now stronger with their latest exciting announcement. TLG Capital announced on 3 October, that it has made an investment in EmVest, a diversified agricultural fund focused on sub-Saharan Africa which has deployed over US$40 million, employs approximately 1,500 people and manages over 10,000 hectares of land across South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland and Zambia. EmVest operates 10 projects across the agricultural chain, growing, processing and distributing food.
Zain Latif, Founder and Principal of TLG, stated, “Our goal is to consolidate key sector specific and regional funds under a single centralised platform for the benefit of investors and fund managers alike. The platform offers a more stable framework from which to invest across the region. This innovative model is particularly suited for funds operating in the growth capital space, and our investment represents a significant step to aggregate private equity funds with less than US$100 million in assets under management. We continue to look at exciting funds with sector or regional focus to add to the platform. ”
Zain gained valuable experience while working at HSBC, particularly focusing on Africa, and after several exploratory visits to the region made it clear for him that the region was full of attractive opportunities. TLG was founded in 2009 and n 2012 TLG Capital was transformed into a multi-asset strategy investment company focusing in particular sub-Saharan Africa.
We are proud to follow the success stories of our alumni and look forward to covering more in the near future.
