My name is Shoaib Sadegh, and I am studying International Business. Currently I am in my final year, last year as part of my course I went abroad. We had to make three choices, and my choices were:
1. Sydney
2. Melbourne
3. Rotterdam
Unfortunately I did not get my first or second choice, I got my last choice. I was disappointed at the time, because I really wanted to visit Australia, but instead, I got my third choice which was the University of InHolland Rotterdam. I did not feel like going, but my parents persuaded me to go anyways. And now I am very happy they did that, I cannot thank them enough. I arrived two weeks late because I did not want to go; therefore I had missed the introduction week and the party and had not met my classmates. However, upon arrival I went to see the head of the module and he told me that I had not missed much. The university I studied in was very advanced, the facilities they provided, to the class rooms, everything was very much advanced.
I met a lot of new people and I socialized as much as I could. I had one of the best classmates as I got on with everyone right away. We organized many parties and went out as a group. As class we organized a dinner party and went to a Sushi restaurant. We had lots of fun, after dinner we all went out. In Rotterdam every Tuesday is student night. I have made friends abroad that I am still in touch with. I feel like I have known them since my childhood and every now and again I go back to visit them.
Whilst abroad, I had to learn to take care of myself. This experience provided me with just that. I relied on everyone else before, but when I was there, I had to do everything myself. I had to pay my bills, cook for myself, wash my clothes etc. It has made me much more mature and independent than before. I recommend every Westminster University student to take the opportunity to go abroad. I would like to thank Westminster University for providing me with the opportunity to go abroad, it has been such a privilege to have travelled and studied abroad, met different people and if I could do it again, I would embrace the opportunity with both arms.
