The learning trip to Brussels has so far been the brightest experience of studying at the Westminster Business School and will probably remain this through the rest of the year. One of the reasons I have chosen to study at Westminster Business School was its integration of theoretical knowledge with a practical learning approach. And now I know I have made a right choice since the course keeps proving it is aimed at giving the students the real enterprise skills we will need in our future professional life.
I have found all the learning components of the Brussels trip very amusing and rewarding: the excursions to the European Parliament, the Chocolate Concept Factory as well as the Audi Factory. Although the visit to the European Parliament did not seem to be particularly relevant to the business course we are doing I personally found it very interesting because I am keen on politics and international affairs, and it felt really nice to be in the place where some important decisions are taken, especially since we were in a major European Union capital city. The workshop at the chocolate factory gave an inside on the chocolate making process and made our group assignment a real practical experience as well as was much of fun. We felt so much more into the group task having to make a real product instead of just talking about it hypothetically. And we did have all the necessary facilities for that, including moulds, packaging, etc.
The trip to the Audi factory was extremely exciting with us being just next to the sophisticated car production with all the automated processes as well as the hand work. It was also useful to find out some particularities about working at Audi: e.g., their meetings are held in the rooms with no chairs, so when managers are meeting they go straight to the discussion of the main points without chatting and wasting time because no one would be willing to stand there for hours. One of the greatest parts was having teachers and academic staff with us so willing to help and make our experience worthy. Apart from everything I have mentioned above this trip has contributed greatly to making us a real student community, friends and colleagues in “pain and gain”. Being such a large course of around 90 people it would be really difficult for us to get to know each other during such a short although intensive learning period of one year. Now as we know people from across seminar groups it will be a far more enjoyable rest of our postgraduate studies at the University of Westminster. And we do want more trips!
