Hi! My name is Karishma Palsetia, I’m 24 years old and I am originally from Mumbai, India. At the moment I am studying the Management MA degree at Westminster Business School, but before this I worked as a Registered Associate Nutritionist in UK, having previously completed my nutrition degree in London. I also worked with NHS within Public Health Project Management in summer break this year. As a Westminster student I really wanted to share my experiences of my course, which most recently involved a weekend residential to Latimer Place, Chesham!
Why I chose to study Westminster’s Management MA
The business environment is changing rapidly – it is becoming more globalised, competitive and in many cases more challenging. The Management MA is designed to help you develop general management skills, which can be used across sectors and borders. After studying a science degree, I wanted to learn more about how organisations function and my end goal is to work within Public Health Project Management. I have worked closely with a Project Manager previously and developed a keen interest in the role. I wish to combine my Nutrition degree and Management degree, which is why I chose this course.
The Management MA residential 2016
This year’s Management MA residential trip took place at Latimer Place Conference Centre, Chesham between Friday 21 October 2016 and Sunday 23 October. The location was an attractive countryside setting on the outskirts of London and the venue was very beautiful overlooking the Chess Valley. It was really refreshing to be away from the city life for a weekend. In total there were approximately 85 students as well as Course Leader Keith Patrick, Deputy Course Leader Nuala OSullivan, Managers and Organisations Module Leader Dr Deborah Knowles and my seminar tutor Dr Sylvia Snijders. It was a good group of people and although our schedule was busy, the place was peaceful and the experience was completely worth it.
The Residential weekend was an important component of our Managers & Organisations Module and it forms the basis of our Reflective Report which is due later this month. We are required to submit an individual reflective report based on two out of five activities which took place on the residential weekend.
The activities themselves were a series of varied team exercises and challenges that provided us with learning experiences on which we could reflect for our first assessment. The main skills that we explored and developed were communication, negotiation, and team working skills. We had 5 different team activities over the weekend and we rotated around teams so that you did each activity with a completely different group.
Although we didn’t have a competition this year, one of the activities was for us to create a board game based on any sport. We had just one hour and it was very interesting to see all the different ideas that came up during the presentations of variety of board games created within this tight time-frame! All the members of my team were unique in every aspect and from different backgrounds which gave us lots of ideas to work on. It was really fun to work on the task together.
Socially, I loved the food and service at the venue – there were many options and the menu was well balanced. I also enjoyed playing pool in the evening after a long day and socialising with everyone. It definitely helped me to bond more with my classmates and I made many new friends over the weekend.
Thank you!
In terms of what we learnt, I would say that this experience has made it easier for me to work with new people and adapt to different learning styles. As a future manager, I will be able to work with different people more effectively. I would really like to thank the entire course team and this module for bringing us together and making it a great learning experience!

Hello,
This is one of the most interesting educational experience blogs I have read in a while. It takes the reader through the journey Karishma has gone through at University of Westminster and gives a high level overview of the quality of education and choices that a student has. It is great to see Karishma carve out a great career after graduating and it works as a good motivation for students ho aspire to have a successful career.
Keep up the good work.
Pratham.
