I love writing – it is one way of sorting out what I think and also relaxing. This may sound strange but focusing on writing means that it is easy to forget other concerns, at least on a temporary basis.
Writing my latest book took much of my spare time over the last 12 months. It was very much a project I had to squeeze into snatched hours and also various ‘holidays’. As with all writing projects, there were ‘highs’ and ‘lows’.
The ‘highs’ included: researching the use of different technologies in training situations; talking to practitioners about their professional practices and gaining lots of new ideas; reflecting on changes in the field since my earlier books on related topics. The ‘lows’ included: struggling to write late at night; missing a lot of the Olympics coverage on TV due to my need to meet deadlines; working over the Christmas period and avoiding late night outs.
Was it worth it? I always enjoy sending off the final manuscript and that is accompanied with a huge sigh of relief. I like receiving a copy of the final book – the publisher does an amazing job particularly with the layout and cover. I hate looking inside the book (this one is still un opened) as I always see sentences or paragraphs that I could improve and develop further.
Will I write another book? I always say ‘no, never again’ but then I forget the ‘lows’ and begin to think about another idea……..
