At a recent article at FT.com, Westminster Business School’ s pro vice-chancellor and dean Barbara Allan talks about low representation in senior levels within higher education. The article, Women fail to make the grade in senior academic roles, tries to answer the question of why is it taking so long for women to be fairly represented at senior levels in business schools and universities remains.
As an academic, Barbara Allan has experienced a career break herself moved into senior position in education and in this article she defines what enabled her to achieve this. Using her career break to improve her qualifications and writing a book definitely turned this period into a valuable experience in her career. Being mentored by the right leader and finding the right establishment that values and supports diversity have all been part of journey to the senior role.
