The start of a new year is always a perfect time to make new resolutions, start afresh and begin new adventures. What better time than to start a Master’s degree at Westminster Business School? With new students joining us from as far afield as Ecuador, China and the United States, 2016 looks to be an exciting one, full of opportunity for networking, friendships, learning, and of course, our annual treasure hunts 🙂
We know that whilst our new students are excited to begin their studies, traveling to a new place, starting a new course and meeting new people can be nerve-racking. For this reason, we decided two years ago to initiate the ‘Getting to Know London’ social media treasure hunts for our new postgraduate starters. A great success and enjoyed by all who take part, the third treasure hunt of the series was held last week, with many new students getting their treasure hunting caps (and winter woollies) on.
How do you play the treasure hunt?
The rules of the game are simple enough: each team is given a set of clues which lead to a location in London. The team then has to reach each location, snapping a photo of themselves at that location on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter using the hashtag #TreasureHunt. Our Social Media Officer then ‘followed’ the teams virtually keeping track of progress and the prize will be awarded to the first team to arrive back with the most correct, creative answers.
Up for grabs
It’s true that student life can be expensive, so we thought what better as a first prize than a £100 gift card for Pizza Express? Top tip to the lucky winners – get yourself an NUS card and head down to this excellent pizzaria on a Monday or Tuesday night and you’ll receive 40% off the bill as well! A big thank you to yummy Mexican restaurant Chipotle too, who have given all participants a voucher for one free meal!
This year’s treasure hunt winners
This year has been particularly tough to judge, with some excellent photo snapping from all teams, but it’s hats off to team #BlackTomato for not only getting most of the clues correct within the timeframe, but also for thinking outside the box and creating some rather entertaining rhyming captions for each post:
Congratulations to the winning team, #BlackTomato (please email us at PGApplicantOfficers.ac.uk to claim your prize) and to all teams for getting in the spirit and having some start of term fun – we hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did and wish you the best of luck for the year ahead!
