The Accounting & Management Society along with it’s sister societies had the privilege of welcoming Rebecca Park and John Butters from New City Initiative (NCI) on Westminster Business School’s buzzing campus on February 13,2013. With the Internship & Placement Fair happening in MG14 the Volunteer Fair in the learning platform, WOOD lecture theater was packed with students curious about NCI summer 2013 paid internship opportunities and the world of asset management from a business point of view.
Founded in 2010, NCI is a think tank aiming at giving a voice to independent, owner-managed financial services business in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. With 27 UK members part of it’s objective is to rebuild the bridges between the financial world and society in the wake of the 2008 crisis and create an open platform where it’s member firms can work together to raise industry standards.
In achieving their objectives NCI has developed a unique summer internship programme with 15-20 internships position available to undergraduate students. What makes this opportunity especially unique to those considering this field is that they provide interns a solid introduction to financial services not only will you be gaining hands-on experience but you participate in an insightful lecture programme met to guide you throughout your internship.
Key dates of what you need to know:
- Internship length is 3 weeks starting July 1st, 2013
- February 26th, 2013 Applications Open
- April 5th, 2013 Applications Close
- April – May Interviews will take place
- End of May: Offers sent out
Key Facts:
- 250 pounds p.w. living allowance
- Free accommodation in London (for non London Students)
- Applications are open to students in Business School Programmes (including business management courses, economics courses and accountancy courses).
Application criteria’s:
- Up-to-date CV including all grades achieved so far in university assessments
- Cover letter no more than 600 words in which candidates should set out why he or she would be the student to bring the most and to gain the most from the internship. The letter should address your drive, commitment and interest in financial services and business and give examples of challenges you have overcome.
Tips for application:
- Demonstrate genuine interest in a career in business and financial services.
- Keep application short and clear: CVs should be no more than 2 pages
- Research the sector and tailor your application
- Spelling and grammar
- Use examples to show what skills you have don’t just list them

NCI internships offer students an opportunity to genuinely be part of a small team and not just photocopying and making coffee. Which 3 summer 2012 interns confirmed when sharing their experience to the audience.
