The Staff Appreciation Awards took place on 3rd June 2013, with the Westminster Business School and Architecture and The Built Environment School. The awards ceremonies have been taking place campus by campus over the past two months with over 600 students nominating members of staff across the four categories of Outstanding Teacher, Innovation in Teaching, Personal Tutor and Non-Teaching Staff. Over 500 staff were nominated and received recognition at the various ceremonies.
I think the big applause goes to Dr. Ioannis P. Christodoulou, Senior Lecturer in Business Strategy,Dept of Marketing & Business Strategy, Westminster Business School. Dr. Ioannis P. Christodoulou received the most nominations in Westminster Business School. It is great when that many students take the time to put through their comments with their nominations.
As one student nominate, these are the words : Ioannis is incredibly motivated, taking a very positive stance in regards to his teaching. He is constantly attempting better ways to deliver strategic management theories to a large audience, keeping them engaged and also giving feedback. He allows open dialogue in large classes in a very controlled manner, inviting well thought-of questions from the audience- and answering to the best of his ability. He attempts to inspire to such an extent- I feel as a student, he genuinely cares to how students feel and perform throughout the module material.
Also Agata Mazurkiewicz and her Marketing team for the Business School received an award recognising their efforts for especially organising the first ever UK Coca-Cola Enterprises Hackathon. Below is one of the quotes from a student who nominated the team :
“Agata and her marketing team took the time to organise the first ever UK Coca-Cola Enterprises Hackathon where CCE senior staff visited the uni and allowed 22 teams to compete on a live brief. Because of their efforts in organising such an exciting event I would like to thank them greatly. They made that Coca-Cola weekend very memorable.”
Jacqueline Pond received the most nominations within ABE and said: ‘I think (the awards) are a really great idea because the bottom line is that teaching in a university is not like teaching in a college, in a university there’s a greater distance, we’re further apart. So it’s really important to build relationships… I don’t have a job without students.’
Alfred Bauer accepted the Quentin Hogg award on behalf of the Estates & Facilities department and added: ‘This has been a tremendous year. The Students’ Union has been coming along in leaps and bounds and continuously pushing boundaries. It’s been marvellous to work with them and it’s a fantastic award to win for Estates and Facilities. We’re often just working behind the scenes, so thank you.’
