The Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC) in conjunction with the Financial Services Commission (FSC), Jamaica hosted the 10th Annual Caribbean Group of Securities Regulators(CGSR) Conference and Workshop entitled, “Fostering Innovation, Growth & Financial Stability in the Caribbean Securities Market – A Path to Recovery” at the Rose Hall Hilton, Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC) is one of eight IMF Regional Technical Assistance Centers (RTACs) located around the world in the Pacific, the Caribbean, in Africa, the Middle East, and Central America. These Centres were created to help countries strengthen human and institutional capacity to design and implement sound macroeconomic policies that promote growth and reduce poverty.
Dr Spinder Dhaliwal was sponsored by CARTAC and FSC to make a presentation on , “Creating a Suitable Environment to foster venture capital and private equity”, following on from her work on successful ethnic minority entrepreneurs in the UK.
The main address was given by Dr. The Honourable Peter Phillips, Minister of Finance and Planning, Jamaica and speakers included Jodi Scarlata, Deputy Division Chief, Western Hemisphere Department, International Monetary Fund, Ms. Candice Huggins-Head, Legal Advisory and Enforcement Division, Trinidad & Tobago Securities and Exchange Commission, Mechelle Martinborough, Legal Counsel and Secretary, Bahamas Securities Commission and Troy Beatty, Assistant Director for Regulatory Policy, Office of International Affairs, United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
