Could you please introduce yourself by telling us a little about yourself?
My name is Haydn Worley. I’m 26 and I’ve been working in the Westminster Business School Registry, as a Faculty Administrator, for just over a year. I moved to London in January 2013 and I enjoy working and living in the city. In my spare time, I enjoy playing squash, tennis, football and I also enjoy creative writing. I am starting a part-time MA course at Westminster, in Film and Television: Theory, Culture and Industry, this September, which I am very excited about.
Please describe your role in the registry in a few words.
I work as a Faculty Administrator and deal specifically with the administration and support of all research activity within the business school. My main duties include providing varied support to the Director of Research and the Director of PhD studies. I make arrangements for research events, monitor and record research activity and research-related expenditure, act as a secretary for the Faculty Research Committee and Faculty Ethics Research Committee, as well as being on hand to support all researchers.
What do you most frequently help students with?
I also support all Westminster Business School doctoral students and their supervisors. I organise arrangements for faculty doctoral training for the students, organise registration, transfer, viva examination and other arrangements to ensure the doctoral programme runs as smoothly as possible. Furthermore, I help the PhD director with queries and interview arrangements from new applicants for our expanding MPhil/PhD programme.
What advice would you give our freshers/new starters this year?
The best advice I can give is enjoy all that the university and the city have to offer. There are many extracurricular activities to get involved in and the central location of the Marylebone campus is a real bonus. However, one place to avoid is Madame Tussauds across the road – overpriced and overrated to say the least! You’re better off spotting some living celebrities in Marylebone High Street!
What events (if any) do you organise that students should look out for during the year?
There is a series of Research Seminars, which I help to organise, that will involve presentations from respected external business experts. Students have attended these seminars in the past and all details will be circulated in due course via Westminster Business School News.
