What better way to start the year, than to complete the survey that bears so much pressure on the institution you study at. The National Student Survey (NSS). Year after year, so much is done for the students to make them aware that their voices are being heard when they fill out the 28 questions asked on the survey. The departments the students are asked about are:
• Teaching on my course
• Assessment & Feedback
• Academic Support
• Organisation & Management
• Learning Resources
• Personal Development
• Practice Placements
• Overall Satisfaction
Students don’t tend to see the importance of the NSS, instead wishing that they’d stop receiving the numerous emails about it. However, every year the NSS gets more and more important as it is compared against other universities in many different areas. Both the University and the Students’ Union try hard to publicise and promote the benefits of completing the NSS, even throwing out some incentives like chocolates and doughnuts on top of the £5 printing credit the students get when filling it out.
Why fill it out?
Your survey provides an insight into what the experience has been for yourself at the University of Westminster. The anonymous data collected from this is then used to identify strengths and weaknesses in different areas and improve on them. For example, the last promotion by University of Westminster as a result of the 2013/14 results was the ‘You Said, We Did’ campaign. To let students know the changes the institution made because of the reaction from students and input about the University. With a massively positive reaction bubbling over the institution, especially here at Marylebone.
The NSS is also used to inform prospective students more information about where they are going to study, allow University and the Students’ Union to make changes accordingly and to also have some sort of accountability in place with quality assurance.
We want the word about NSS to spread between students so that more and more of you can fill it out, therefore it will give us a better idea of areas we need to work on for you students, giving you the ultimate experience when attending the University of Westminster.
You’ll be seeing a lot around campus shortly all about the NSS so come to visit the registry or Students’ Union and make sure you complete the survey.
