Enrolment and Orientation is one of our favourite times of year here at Westminster Business School. It’s great to welcome new students from across the world, and to meet the people we have been working hard to support over the application period.
Having spoken to new students before they arrive, we know that however exciting starting a new course is, it can also be daunting – will I make new friends, will I manage the class work, what will it be like to live in London? It is important to us that our students enjoy their journey with us from the word go and so there are lots of ways in which we try to help them feel welcome.
One of the newer activities that we have been running for new postgraduate students is the ‘Getting to Know London’ #TreasureHunt – a bit of fun and a great way to help students find their way around the local area and to make new friends. This year over 100 new postgraduate students and 11 teams took part. It was a huge success and greatly enjoyed by all despite the inevitable onset of rain…
Treasure Hunt rules
Each team was given a map, 13 clues and a set of rules and were sent off into the city with their cameras and smart phones. At each location they snapped some fantastic photos and beautiful selfies, and posted them all over social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) with the hashtag #TreasureHunt. Our social media guru, Meral, then followed everyone’s progress, sharing the story on the Business School’s social media channels. Participants had to return to campus before 12.30pm to be in with a chance of winning.
The winning teams!
This year we had two prizes to give away – two £100 gift cards awarded to the teams who
a) answered the most clues within the quickest time; and
b) were the most creative.
I am delighted to say that ‘first past the post’ prize was awarded on Friday to the MBA class, who really got into the spirit of things and entered the competition together. Many congratulations – we hope you enjoyed your first meal together as a group at Pizza Express!
The creative prize then (drum-roll please), we have decided to award to the #Fantastic5, who went all out to create a spoof of It’s a Hard Day’s Life for clue number 12. Again, congrats to you all – please email Jeni and Joe at PGApplicantOfficers@westminster.ac.uk to arrange collection of your prize.
Thank you and good luck!
From all of us here at Westminster Business School, we’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who took part. It was great fun and lovely to have another opportunity to meet you all. Good luck with your studies – we look forward to seeing you all on campus!
