Students as Partners Roundtable 2025
Students as Partners Roundtable 2025 (Part 1): Exploring the possibilities and tensions in student-staff partnerships and social justice work in Higher Education

artwork by Raquel Durán
The UoW Student Partnership team was thrilled to host Part 1 of the Students as Partners Roundtable in June 2025. Already established for over a decade in Australia, this marked the first time the event was held internationally.
At Westminster, student partnership work is grounded in social justice. We strive to ask radical questions, centre minoritised groups, and challenge traditional approaches to knowledge creation. This work takes shape through our Students as Co-Creators (SCC) programme and our Pedagogies for Social Justice (PSJ) project. In recent years, there has been growing interest in exploring the connections between partnerships and social justice work. Practical and theoretical initiatives are underway globally, and the roundtable fostered rich discussions about the role of partnerships in anti-racist, decolonial, and feminist work.
As the first cross-continental Students as Partners roundtable, the event brought together students and staff internationally, including collaborators from three universities in South Africa: University of Cape Town, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, and University of Western Cape. Part 1 took place in London from 25–27 June 2025, and Part 2 is scheduled for South Africa on 2–3 October 2025. More information about Part 2 can be found at: https://www.cput.ac.za/dsjp/events/roundtable.
We also commissioned independent artist, Raquel Durán, to illustrate the conversations, ideas and connections that came out of the three days. Swipe the gallery below to view:
