DEN provides in-house training to enhance graduate employability. DEN and its partners provide ‘graduates’ experiences in a real situation, interning and mentoring by developing students’ skills. DEN is integrated into two modules: ‘Political Research and Practice’ and ‘Democratic Engagement in an International Context’. The latter is a new module based on DEN and delivered to the students at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. DEN supports students with their basic employment skills such as creating a digital profile, writing skills and placement opportunities. Since 2020 DEN has provided academic credits for those students who take an internship, managing, running, and delivering projects. Students are mentored by alumni and academics both at the university and online.
Identifying Opportunities
If necessary DEN works with students and local partners to identify appropriate internship or even first employment. Alumni, academics, students, and partners work cooperatively to ensure students are going through the process of mentoring and internship.
Employability Networls
DEN supports students with skills for this new world of work, with a creative and professional environment and a set of graduate attributes: critical thinking, global awareness, digital literacy, etc. It will develop their employability networks with our national, local communities, international partners and alumni.
Global and Local
DEN enhances students’ employability by providing them the opportunity to intern in the different DEN projects and projects of other institutions of the DEN network, allowing students to develop creativity and skills in both at local and global environment. Through the organisation of several global conferences that engage students from all around the world, interning students improve their research skills through writing, editing and publishing magazines and books to develop their research and teaching careers. DEN internships succeed at getting students closer to the international reality that they face before and after graduation.
Democratic Skills
DEN provides students with a distinct and a clear pathway for acquiring employment-enhancing Democratic Skills. The corollary to this is focusing on the upskilling of students to make them more employable in an increasingly competitive, diverse and uncertain world.
Tailored Workshops
Alumni and current students work together to organize and deliver workshops for undergraduate students on employability, involving local and community leaders, and with different thematic focuses.
Transversality
In 2020 DEN has been integrated into courses through two different modules: ‘Political Research and Practice’; and ‘Learning in International Environment’. These modules support students with their basic employment needs such as creating a digital profile, writing skills and placements. This has integrated the specific role of DEN in the courses providing academic credits for their students in their study. Moreover, during the time of the global pandemic of COVID-19, at DEN we have adapted our resources and tools to provide students the opportunity to continue with their internship and mentoring online, enhancing their skills and resilience to adapt to the new normality of work.
