Mentoring Strategies
We hope to provide one-to-one mentoring, including online support, to UG and PG social science students. This will be handled by alumni and PGs up through Year 3 and continuing to the Foundation degree.
Academic staff, working with the support of the University, would train Alumni, and PG and UG students for mentoring of Year 1, 2, and 3 students. Academic staff could allocate mentors to students on a short- or long-term basis.
Academic staff would support students with specific needs, who could be paired with a mentor with experience in his or her specialty. For example, Foundation or first-year students are normally under considerable anxiety when they start their courses. The year 2 and 3 students could play a valuable role in mentoring junior colleagues going through this transition. They could help them adapt to new conditions, especially during the first 3 months. We have developed a structure for this since the emergence of Covid-19.
