new means during the pandemic
The sudden outbreak of what we now call Covid-19 completely disrupted everyone’s life. As individuals, families, businesses, charities, organisations, schools, and societies we have all had to change our lifestyles and working cultures drastically. At the Democratic Education Network, we haven’t let the pandemic stop us from creating unique student-led projects and working as a team. We have decided to showcase the different facets of life during Covid-19 through different medias.
e-mentoring and remote internships
Our first aim was to continue “business as usual”. For this, we learnt how to utilise the new tools available like Zoom and Google meet-up, which allowed us to carry on meeting with other students and staff members, and developing the projects that at first seemed to be interrupted by the pandemic. Moreover, we have encouraged our current members and alumni to share their experiences with us, and they have been actively submitting their articles on the coronavirus pandemic. A real global collection of pieces, the topics vary from individual experiences during lockdown like mental health, personal growth and lifestyle to politics, society and economy and how they are affected by the pandemic. video-reflections
As part of this sharing of experiences, and because of our belief in the importance of producing multimedia materials that are up-to-date with the latest technologies, we are also working on a series of videos to reflect upon the different challenges and opportunities that COVID-19 has meant for us. We will be releasing a special short video that gathers different demographics of people answering a varied number of questions formulated by our students.
special magazine issue
We will also be releasing a Covid-19 special edition Magazine. The magazine will act as a place of encounter for articles about lifestyle, mental health, politics, and the future. You can find more information about it in our magazine section (hyperlink).
social media takeovers
We are also trying to stay active on social media! For this, we are having some Instagram takeovers from students who are willing to show their “Covid adventures”. Many of our members have had to travel abroad and have shown us the inside of empty “apocalypse like” airports. Other students created great YouTube style vlogs to showcase their daily Covid routine.
