For students and colleagues
Blackboard Ultra includes AI Studio, a dedicated, institutionally managed space
where students and colleagues can experiment with AI directly inside the VLE.
AI Studio is a chat-style environment, separate from your course content,
assessments, and gradebook. It provides a space to ask questions, generate ideas,
and explore what AI can do without connecting to or affecting a live course.
What you can do in AI Studio
Once inside, you will find a familiar chat interface where you can type a
question or prompt and receive an AI-generated response.
You can:
- Start new conversations and revisit recent chat history
- Choose between supported AI models, where available
- Use three AI-suggested starter questions based on the Blackboard sites you have access to
Conversations carry over within sessions, so you can build on previous exchanges
rather than starting from scratch each time.
Usage limits
Each AI model has a daily message limit, which varies by model.
A countdown is displayed in the interface so you can see how many messages
you have remaining.
Limits reset automatically overnight.
Important things to know
AI Studio is for exploration and educational experimentation only.
It does not connect to your course content, grades, or assessments.
You are not advised to use it for personal purposes or for assignments
that will be marked.
As with all AI tools in Blackboard, a banner reminds users that they are
interacting with a third-party AI model and encourages responsible use.
Blackboard's approach to AI is underpinned by principles of human oversight,
fairness, privacy, security, and safety.
Getting started
AI Studio has been enabled on the University's Blackboard VLE.
