Videos not viewed in the past 13 months will be archived.
Archived videos are not available for immediate viewing, but all users can restore a video.
What’s new: In addition to archiving, we now also have a deletion rule.
If a video has not been viewed for more than nine years (based on the last viewed date), it will be deleted.
What is it?
Archiving moves older, inactive videos into an archived storage tier. The video is still there, but it is not available for immediate viewing until it is restored.
Why is it like this?
-
Videos stored in the archived system use less energy than those in the live Panopto library and are therefore better for the environment.
-
To make sure users are getting the most up to date results when searching for videos.
-
To stay compliant with privacy law.

How does it work?
-
Restoration of an archived video can take up to 48 hours.
-
Once the video is restored, the user who initiated the request will receive an email alert with a link to view the video.
Deletion after long inactivity
Archiving is designed to manage inactive content while keeping it available for restoration. However, if a video has not been viewed for more than
nine years (based on the last viewed date), it will be deleted.
Need to keep content longer, or archive sooner?
If you wish to retain the content of a folder or individual video indefinitely, or want to archive content sooner (one academic year or each term),
you can modify the default content policy.
