The information on this page details how captions can be provided on video recordings made through supported systems at Westminster (specifically Panopto, Blackboard Collaborate and Teams)
Panopto
All videos on the Panopto system are automatically captioned. The auto-generated captions are not 100% accurate, however, they can be edited. Watch this video to find out how to edit captions.
Blackboard Collaborate
Blackboard Collaborate does not currently have a built-in captioning feature. The Google Chrome browser however has a feature that captions any audio played via the browser and turns this into text in real time. This feature can be exploited during a live Blackboard Collaborate sessions or subsequently when the recording is played. Watch this video to find out how to enable this feature in the Google Chrome browser.
Or see this written guide.
Alternatively, recordings can be downloaded from Blackboard Collaborate and then uploaded to Panopto where auto-captions will be applied. See this guide to find out how.
Microsoft Teams
Staff who would like to use Microsoft Teams for recording need to familiarise themselves with and adhere to the University’s Microsoft Teams privacy notice and guidance for use of Microsoft Teams for recording.
Teams can detect what is said in a meeting and present real-time captions. The captions include speaker attribution—so you’ll see not only what’s being said, but who’s saying it. Recorded Teams sessions can also include captions and transcripts. These are not on by default, watch this to see how to enable them.
