Accessing Blackboard as a Student
To access the university’s learning management system (Blackboard), you will need to use the Single-Sign-On (SSO) system which uses your university’s Microsoft login account. This change was made to improve the availability of the service by using the cloud-based Microsoft authentication system.

What is my account to access Blackboard?
To access resources in Blackboard, you’ll need to use your university’s Microsoft login account (username@westminster.ac.uk) and a password. You are given a username before you enrol with us. This is the letter “w” followed by the first 7 digits of your student ID number. Check any University correspondence for this ID number.
For example, if your student ID is 12345678
Your university’s Microsoft login account is in the format W1234567@westminster.ac.uk which is also your login account to access Blackboard.
Note: This is Different from your university Gmail account, which in this case will be W1234567@my.westminster.ac.uk but the same password.
How to login to Blackboard?
1. To access Blackboard visit learning.westminster.ac.uk and click on ‘Blackboard Login’ button.
Note. Make sure you are using the Google Chrome browser.
2. You will be directed to the Microsoft Authentication page.
3. Enter your university’s Microsoft login account in the format username@westminster.ac.uk and press ‘Next’
4. Enter your password and press ‘Sign in‘
I do not know what my password is? or How can I reset/change it?
To set up your password for the first time (or to reset it), go to our password self-service and follow the instructions. Password reset links will be sent to the personal email address you provided when joining the University.
Note: A username is the letter “w” followed by the first 7 digits of the student ID number. Check any University correspondence for this ID number.
For example, if the student ID is 123456789 then the username will be w1234567

My password works with my university's Gmail but not with Blackboard?
First, make sure you are using your Microsoft login account (in this format username@westminster.ac.uk) and a password to login to Blackboard.
If this still does not work, to make sure your password is synchronised in all university systems, reset your password by visiting our password self-service and follow the instructions.
