How to fix problems reported in Ally – Microsoft Word
Add a Header to a Table

Step One
Open the original Microsoft Word file on your computer.
Step Two
Select the first row of the table.
• Select the Design tab and check Header Row.
• Right-click on the first row of the table and select Table Properties.
• Select the Row tab and check Repeat as header row at the top of each page. Select OK.
Step Three

Save the file and upload it to your course.
Add a Headings to a Document

Step One
Open the original Microsoft Word file on your computer
Step Two
Add headings.
• Select the text you want to make a heading.
• On the Home tab, choose the heading you want from the Styles group.

Add Image Descriptions

Step One
Open the file on your computer.
Step Two
Add descriptions to your images.
• Double or right-click on an image to open the Format Picture panel.
• Select Edit Alt Text.
• Add the description text.

Step One
Open the file on your computer.
Step Two
Change the contrast of the text.
• Select the text.
• Open the Font Colour menu and select More Colours.
• Choose a new colour with greater contrast.

Step One
Open the file on your computer.
Step Two
Save the file as a tagged PDF.
• Select File and Save As.
• Click the Options button and select Document structure tags for accessibility.
• Select PDF from the File Format menu.
• Once completed, click OK and then select Save.

• Right-click on an image select Edit Alt Text in the menu
• Add the description text.
Step Three

Fix Text Contrast

Step One

Change the contrast of the text.
• Select the text.
• Right-click on the selected text and select Font in the menu.
• Open the Font Colour menu and select More Colours.

Tag a PDF

Step One
Open the original Microsoft PowerPoint file on your computer.
Step Two
Unfortunately, you cannot save PowerPoint files as tagged PDFs, so you will need to upload the PowerPoint file instead.
Upload the original source file
Another option is to replace the PDF with the original source file. For example, the PowerPoint file.
1. Select How to tag a PDF and select Yes.
2. Select Upload original document.
3. Select Browse and upload the original source file.
Step Three

Save the file and upload it to your course.
