Do you walk for an hour or more most days? Have you changed where and why you walk during the pandemic? Do you live in Greater London? If so, a new study into the motivations, practices, and spaces accessed by frequent walkers would like to hear from you.
A frequent walker is anyone whose overall walking time in public is more than an hour on most days of the week. This might be made up of a few long walks or several shorter walks, and the walks could be for any reason: commuting, shopping, to access greenspaces, for leisure, for fitness.
The project – Learning from Frequent Walkers: motivations, practices, and spaces – is looking to answer questions such as who frequent walkers are, why they walk, where they walk to, and how their walking fits in with their daily routine. With the pandemic profoundly affecting people’s lives, the researchers also want to understand how walking habits have changed for frequent walkers, whether they became frequent walkers during the lockdowns, and how they expect their walking to continue or change after lockdown.
If you are aged over 18, live within Greater London, and would like to take part in the study, please contact f.bahrami@rug.nl. The research will involve an interview lasting approximately 25-30 minutes.
